“Knockout vocals, driving guitars, and a killer sense of humor that makes no apologies.” — NPR
From the low-fi, sparse folk-melancholy of her 2010 EP, Strange Cacti, to the electrified, polished rock ‘n’ roll bursting from 2016’s beloved and acclaimed My Woman, Angel Olsen has refused to succumb to a single genre, expectation, or vision. Singing her precise, often revelatory lyrics with a warbling wild voice that blends Dolly Parton and Patti Smith, Olsen swirls sun-kissed dream pop and brooding garage rock into something whole, impressionistic, and new. On the heels of a jam-packed summer of music Olsen rolls into town, along with the electronic music artist Julianna Barwick whose hypnotic, otherworldly sounds open the show.
Angel’s Album – Phases is a collection of work culled from the past several years, including the new song “Special” recorded during the My Woman sessions, as well as “Fly On Your Wall”- previously available on the Bandcamp-only, anti-Trump compilation Our First 100 Days. The collection also features never before heard demos, as well as B-Sides, Rarities, and Covers from various elusive releases throughout the years.
The “Tiny Dreams” solo tour begins in earnest on Sunday, September 7 in Big Sur, California and will lead Olsen to the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center on Thursday, September 27. Olsen partnered with Plus1, a charity organization that ensures $1 from each ticket sold goes toward humanitarian relief.
